listing M1 Garand stocks over time, so please check back often.
1F - M1 NATIONAL MATCH GARAND STOCK.

Has an AAP cartouche (Augusta
Arsenal), probably applied over worn out prior cartouche. Nice solid,
mellow wood with overall smooth, light wear and lustrous varnish
finish. At most, light rubs, dings overall. Has the typical Army
fiberglass job in the receiver/trigger group area indicating this was a
National Match stock. I’ve seen many of these over the years (on
complete NM Garands) and they were all essentially identical to this
one. This is butt stock only – no hand guards or metal. Finish is
original and probably done by shooter of this gun. Stock came from a
large lot auctioned by an arsenal, from which I selected the best, this
included. The stock has been fit-tested to a mint Garand and it was
found to be very stiff and tight as expected, and trigger wouldn’t quite
close and lock, indicating original trigger group was custom to fit to
glass. Nice solid stock. $95
2F - ABOUT MINT M1 NATIONAL MATCH GARAND
STOCK WITH METAL.

Has
DOD cartouche (1/2” wide eagle/stars in box), Dec. 1953 or later. Also
a great circle “P”. Stock is near mint and in original, untouched
condition except for the identifying feature of having a classic Army
fiberglass job – all I’ve seen have been essentially identical to this
one. Condition is extremely outstanding. Essentially no wear or
rounding of edges. Has butt plate, stock ferrule and sling loop.
Totally untouched original finish. The stock was fitted to a mint
Garand to check fit, and found it tight and about perfect. Trigger just
about didn’t close. I’ve saved this stock for many years hoping to find
just the right NM rifle for it, but never did. Here’s your chance for
something really special. $250
3F - ORIGINAL M1 GARAND STOCK.

This is an M1 Garand stock
without hand guards or stock metal. It is original, solid and
excellent. However all markings are gone. Stock may have been
refinished at one time, but shows no evidence except the absence of
markings. Each side has slightly different shade. It came off a Garand
which was given an upgrade stock. Fine surface. Couple tiny dings
barely worth mentioning. Great edges. One minor crack as shown.
Definite original. The stock was fitted with a mint Garand to test
lock-up and found to be tight. $35

CALIBER.

NOTE: the variation in
coloring on the first two photos was due to the lighting only.
Serial No. 49134, all
matching. Made
1862.
The serial number also has a “2” above or below, in most
places, indicating to me, this is one of a pair, possibly once cased.
Barrel is thin, even plum.
Very good barrel markings.
Very good bore with a little speckled grey.
Wedge screw appears to be repro, though it's not obvious.
Very good nipples.
Cylinder scene worn to about 60%.
Frame silvery grey with good luster and a bit of mottled, aged
case.
Good action.
Backstrap fairly clean with traces of blue at top. Really pretty
grips, orangey brown with varnish (original) still 90%.
Very nice M1860. $2,595
15F -
MODEL 1868 U.S. SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR
RIFLE.
More Photos, Click Here
Still uses the Civil War Springfield lock, but was a barrel specifically
made for the rifle. Lock is lustrous grey with crisp edges and
markings. Has spread eagle emblem “U.S./SPRINGFIELD” & “1863”. Barrel
has bright shiny bore with heavy, sharp rifling and some tiny grey
speckles. Exterior has heavy plum patina with very fine raised
texture. Full rear sight. Breech block shows bluish through mottled
darker stain. Marked “1870/eaglehead over crossed arrows/US”.
Excellent wood with sharp original edges (very slight wear), original
lustrous finish, and two very fine cartouches. No circle “P” – in its
place is an inspector’s stamp (initials). Butt stock has a few typical
rubs/scratches. Forestock has more little scratches/dings. A very nice
1868 showing honest use. Includes original
cleaning rod. $1,295
17F -
MODEL 1816
U.S. FLINTLOCK MUSKET ALTERED TO PERCUSSION IN THE NATIONAL ARMORIES.
More Photos, Click Here
Cone type or “Belgian” conversion. Classic Civil War musket where the
flintlock parts were removed and plugged, and the pan ground flush with
the lock. A nipple was added to the rear of the barrel near the right
top side, and a new hammer added. This type conversion is the only one
performed in the U.S. Armories. This is the highly desirable “HARPERS
FERRY” made musket. Super strong, crisp lock marked with fine eagle
over US, plus at the tail “HARPERS/FERRY/1837”. Lock sharp, mostly
clean steel with some brown stain. Most metal clean to grey, with
remnants scattered of thin, smooth brown left from prior cleaning some
time ago which wasn’t thorough. Fine breech marks, circle P, eagle
head, V, and 1837. No pitting. Very good nipple. Thin
brown patina around base. Rest of barrel smooth. Very good
clean bore. Original ramrod. Wood very good with fairly sharp edges,
never sanded or cleaned. Inspector’s initials on escutcheon area.
Numerous small rubs, nicks, scratches scattered. Half inch wide
flake out of bottom of forestock just behind mid-barrel band.
Overall very nice. Soldier’s initials 5/8” high, put into reverse butt.
$1,795
24F - MODEL 1868 U.S. SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR
RIFLE.
More Photos, Click Here Still uses the Springfield Civil War lock, but uses a barrel
specifically made for the rifle, not an altered musket and barrel like
the 1866. Smooth barrel has bright underside and thin, even plum
patina. Bright, sharp bore with some very minor speckled grey. Deep
blue breech with some scattered, spotty beginnings of shallow brown.
Breech marked “1870/eagle head/crossed arrows/US’. Light grey lock has
spread eagle, U.S. Springfield and 1863. Excellent action. Rear sight
long range blade cut short, leaving open sight. Quite excellent dark
wood, uncleaned, with fairly sharp contours. Very few rubs or dings.
Has about 2/3rds of one cartouche, faded and visible when the light is
right, and another, about one half seen, but darker and more clear.
Includes cleaning rod. Very nice specimen. Offered well under book.
