1U - COMPLETE EARLY-WEST FRINGED BUCKSKIN
OUTFIT C.1860-70'S.
More Photos, Click Here
Heavy pullover shirt top and trousers. Classic of the West –
romantic garb which defined the Cavalry officer, scouts, trappers and
Western adventurers. Made at the same time, in the same way, of the
same materials as George Custer’s outfits, one still to be seen at the
Little Bighorn Museum. The only difference between his outfit and this,
is this is a bit fancier – has more fringe and pockets. Words fail to
adequately describe the character and style of this set. Matching
over-shirt and trousers. Made from thick, puffy, probably Indian tanned
elk hide, possibly buffalo. Shows use and a perfect patina, and is very
excellent overall. Shirt has a wide lay-down collar, fringed entirely on
edge and base. Lapels fringed. Shoulder and arm seams fringed. Five
patch pockets on front fringed all around. Contoured bottom fringed.
Backside fringed across the shoulders, down the center, and along the
base. Two patch pockets on bottom rear, also fringed. Arms prox. 36”.
Chest prox. 46”. Prox. 30” long. Trousers are wonderful on their own.
Two patch pockets in front, fringed all around. Two in back the same.
Belt in back with 1855 dated brass buckle. Fringed entirely down the
outer seam of each leg. Prox. 36” waist, 33 1/2” inseam. All leather
thick, puffy and heavy. Few suspender and fly brass buttons replaced or
missing. Machine sewn, indicating this outfit likely came from a
frontier outfitter. These outfits were available generally in frontier
cities and at border trading posts, frequently made-to-order, often
fabricated and sewn by Indian women employed for their skill at making
these leather outfits. This was often the first purchase made by men
coming off campaign or trappers returning to “civilization” to replace
their blackened, greasy, shrunken, worn outfits. If your collection
features the heritage of the early West, you could not find a more
splendid icon. $2,500
2U - 1870-80's U.S. ARMY OFFICER'S
AIGUILLETTE.
More Photos, Click Here
Worn by adjutants
and Aide-de-camps, and some others. Heavy gold bullion cord cleverly
woven at top to form the attachment point, and the starting point of the
loops and braid which went under the arm and across the chest, ending in
two pendant barrel knots above brass decorative “pencils”. Once there
were thin button loops arising from the end of the braid, which the
original owner removed and replaced with tiny brass hooks (for eyes on
the chest). Condition is very good overall. Evenly tarnished but still
shows good gold tones. Attachment loop at top seems to need to be
re-sewn in one spot to narrow the end to button-hole size, the way it
once was. We speculate the owner installed a button under the epaulet
to which the upper end of the aiguillette attached. This is a valuable
and rare accessory seldom encountered, and originally seen having
considerable variation, due to the few purchased and great variety of
sources used. This was to be expected, even in the manner of wear. See
page 139, “More Army Blue” for an adjutant wearing it on the wrong
side. Virtually unavailable to collectors the past few decades.
Guaranteed original. $225
3U - EXTREMELY RARE 1870-80'S ENLISTED
ARTILLERY AIGUILLETTE - U.S. ARMY.

Don’t recall ever
encountering another similar enlisted specimen. And for clarity, I
repeat, this is an aiguillette, not chest cords. I believe these date
about 1884, but could be 1870’s. See Langellier’s “More Army Blue”, pg.
199 for the general form and color. See also pg. 189. For the fixture
on the aiguillette which attaches to the flat bar under an epaulet or
shoulder knot, see pg. 138, an officer’s model using the same slotted
brass fitting. From the brass shoulder fitting to the end of the two
brass “pencils”, is 43”. From the shoulder fitting, two braid loops
hang, which go under the shoulder, plus two braid cords which cross the
chest, attach to two buttons and hang straight down to the “pencils”.
Condition is excellent, with a few scattered snags. Guaranteed
original. Ultra rare. $175

How rare it is to find one of these from the Regular Army and not a
state issue. Excellent overall, showing some use. Light/legible
inspection stamp on lining and right shoulder from Schuylkill Arsenal in
1901. Size 3. Soldier’s last name lightly stamped in. Sweat stain
under arms in beige lining. Cuffs not frayed. Quality fabric just
shows some minor scattered moth nips in the nap. I don’t see any moth
holes. Also a couple little, neat period sewn repairs to very small
snags. Excellent scarlet trim. All buttons included, one loose.

HIGH SPANISH NAVAL OFFICER'S
UNIFORM COAT - WORN DURING THE SPANISH AMERICAN WAR IN THE PHILIPPINES &
OBTAINED AS A WAR SOUVENIR BY AN AMERICAN SOLDIER IN 1898-1899.
More Photos, Click Here
(Keep
in mind, it is rather dark these days in Alaska, so the red shots are a
bit washed out). A fabulous piece with excellent provenance.
Superb Navy blue wool body with gold lace edgings, red turned back
collar and full red lining, including the tails. I place the rank above
Captain in the Spanish Navy based on comparison with two period photos
of the highest Naval officers in Manila during the Spanish American
War. Rank is judged, according to my references, by the number of gold
lace bands that face the cuffs, and the number of stars. The Spanish
Minister of Marine, Ramon Aunon y Villalon is shown with the two lace
bands and two stars. Admiral Mantojo, Commander of the Spanish Asiatic
Squadron destroyed at Manila Bay wears three bands and three stars (plus
some extra embellishment). This coat is either for a rank between
Captain and Admiral, or logic says it is for an Admiral
(3 stars). We have signed provenance showing ownership from me
back through one other owner, to the man, whose father, a member of Co.
I, 51st Iowa Vol. Infantry (Philippine Service) left the
impression that he, the soldier, got the uniform (confiscated, purchased
or traded) from the Royal Palace in Manila. The prior owner said the
uniform has been on public display at a few important events and
solicited to be in others. Included in the written provenance provided
is a photo of the uniform in a public display, plus a magazine also
showing a display. Judging by the high rank of the uniform, finding the
identity of the original owner seems feasible. Coat is heavy, and
strikingly beautiful. It is double breasted with four, almost gem
quality gold plated buttons with crown over anchor, on each side of the
chest. There is one small button on one cuff, missing on the other cuff
(the only button missing). The gold lace is excellent in general, with
some surface wear in the neck area, facings and waist. There are 12
(complete set) of buttons across the back and down the vent. There are
pockets in the tails. Shoulders have loops to hold epaulets.
Definitely a key piece in our collection.
Names of prior owners and soldier identity provided to buyer.

circular flat knots and tassels. These cords drape across the chest and
loop over right shoulder. Excellent, lightly used example. Now very

WWII
JAPANESE REPLICA TYPE 99 INFANTRY COMBAT BELT CARTRIDGE BOX SET.
More Photos, Click Here Often referred to as
the Navy
pattern, when they were designed for the 7.7mm cartridge of the Type 99
rifle. Originals
are virtually unobtainable. This
is a re-creation in exacting detail, which in my opinion is
better than the original, both in workmanship and quality. Entirely combat
worthy. It includes
EVERYTHING! ... Waist belt with solid brass buckle, the two front, wedge
shaped cartridge boxes with over-the-top closing strap, the bayonet frog
with little belt/buckle on front, and the large, rear,
bulk 60 round ammo pouch, WITH OILER on side, again in exacting
detail. Just the single bulk cartridge box without oiler brings $200
in the original. For display or
reenactment, you could not hope to obtain better. All matching reddish brown, lustrous heavy leather with white
stitching. Superb.
Unbelievably, there are even cardstock cartridge packets (no
internals) with Japanese writing in the front boxes!! $100 each,
wholesale price, and our cost

33U -
FINE INDIAN WAR PERIOD ENLISTED INFANTRY FIELD UNIFORM.
More
Photos,
Click Here 5-button sack coat with
trousers from the 1880's through the Spanish American War.
Extra quality navy blue 5 button coat.
Good wool fabric with thick custom quilted lining in gold tone,
with maroon and gold pocket lining.
In addition, there is a decorative white toothed flap sewn to the
vertical edge, just behind the buttons.
This is only seen when the coat is unbuttoned, yet was the height
of custom coats of the period.
These features are believed by some to have been obtained
overseas, during the Spanish American War.
Coat only has a few scattered 1/8" moth holes and one 1/4".
Interior shows some wear to lustrous surface.
Excellent, clean heavy wool trousers in a lighter shade of blue
(correct).
Belt in back.
Few little moth holes scattered, with several little holes hidden
inside fly.
Very fine set. $875
42U - GORGEOUS IDENTIFIED REGULAR ARMY
PATTERN 1884 U.S. INFANTRY DRESS TUNIC & TROUSERS.
More
Photos,
Click Here Probably the first Regular Army
identified tunic we've had.
Soldier neatly wrote his name in the lining twice, in black ink,
neatly done with character and flair, plus full unit information.
His last name was KNOCHE, and the unit was "Co. A/10th/INF./USA".
A visitor to our website sent the following information on this soldier,
and we very much appreciate it:
Valentine Knoche, born in
Hersfeldt, Germany about 1870-71, enlisted in the Army on Feb. 23, 1894
and was assigned to Co. A 10th Infantry. He was discharged Feb. 22, 1899
in Havana Cuba. He re-enlisted on May 19, 1899 and was assigned to
Co. K 10th Infantry; he completed his second tour on April 22, 1902. By
1920, he had settled in Bueana Vista, Colorado, from where he filed for
an army pension in 1925. A beautiful, high quality, clean and very excellent coat.
Shows little use.
I see almost no moth damage.
Only one 3/8" hole on front above the right hip, and a few tracks in the nap on back.
White faced collar, shoulder straps, cuff tabs, and tail facings.
Rarely seen this clean, excellent.
Full set of original buttons.
Off-white lining has few spots of open seam, but no sweat stains.
Inside the front, on the button side, behind the buttons, the
blue is pulled away from the edge seam for about 12".
Not seen unless you look inside coat.
Should be tacked back down.
Comes with lighter blue wool trousers with wide white stripe down
outside of leg.
Dusty. Belt in back.
Few moth holes. Very good overall.
Best example I've had in years, and today, whenever we sell one
of these, we wonder where and if ever we'll be able to replace it,
once gone. $775
